Title: Ansapit Project – Biodiversity Preservation and Ecosystem Restoration in Cacique Henri Communal Park

Aims: Preserve biodiversity and restore ecosystems in the Cacique Henri Communal Park (Haiti) by raising awareness and involving local communities in the management of their natural heritage.

Location: Haiti

Dates: 2022-2024

Summary: The Cacique Henri Communal Park, located in Anse-à-Pitres, Haiti, is a protected area of significant ecological importance, hosting unique biodiversity. This park includes rare plant species such as cacti and palm trees, as well as endangered animals like the Ricord’s ground iguana, a rare and critically endangered species of iguana, along with several other vertebrate species of patrimonial interest. The Ansapit project, conducted in partnership with the FOKAL Foundation, aims to preserve this biodiversity and restore damaged ecosystems, particularly dry forests and mangroves. The project’s actions include a rigorous assessment of the park's animal and plant biodiversity through various research methods, ecosystem restoration efforts, particularly through cactus planting, and raising awareness among local populations with adapted educational materials.
