About Caribaea Initiative

Caribaea Initiative is a non-profit association working to develop research and higher education on Caribbean biodiversity and wildlife management, with a special focus on Haïti and the Lesser Antilles, in order to increase local expertise and scientific excellence. The association also aims at fostering scientific transnational cooperation between Caribbean and foreign research institutes. To learn more about Caribaea Initiative go to: www.caribaea.org.

You can join the association through the conference registration link and get a discount on the conference registration fee.

About the 2017 Workshop

The workshop is intended to be a forum for discussing research on animal biodiversity and wildlife management in the Caribbean region. It will be a unique opportunity to bring together researchers and conservationists working in different parts of the region. The workshop will consist of plenary talks by invited speakers, general sessions of contributed talks and 1 mini-symposium on Veterinary Sciences and Conservation Biology.

This second edition is co-organized with Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) and the RTPI CNRS “Caraïbes”.

The detailed scientific programme of the talks will be established by the organizing committee 2017, when all abstracts submitted by the participants will have been evaluated.

We are however already delighted to announce exciting invited talks by prestigious scientists:
Prof. Redouan Bshary, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland
“Coral reef fish behavior and cognition in a changing world”
– Dr. Michael A. Ivie, Montana State University, USA
« Endemism Patterns in Terrestrial Arthropods, with a Focus on the Beetles of the Lesser Antilles (Insecta: Coleoptera) »
Dr. Dawn AT Phillip, University of the West Indies, ST Augustine
“Fish tales: Of islands and continents, the story of Caribbean freshwater fishes”
Dr. Thierry Work, National Wildlife Health Center, Hawaii
“Trouble in the tropics – How veterinary medicine informs conservation of marine and terrestrial wildlife in tropical island ecosystems”

Further information on the program will be communicated through our Facebook page and on our website in the coming weeks.
