About Caribaea Initiative

Caribaea Initiative is a non-profit association whose mission is to develop research and higher education on animal biodiversity and wildlife management, in the insular Caribbean, in order to increase local expertise and scientific excellence. The association also aims at fostering scientific transnational cooperation between Caribbean and foreign research institutes.

About the 2019 Conference

The conference is intended to be a forum for discussing research on animal biodiversity and wildlife management in the insular Caribbean region. It represents a unique opportunity to bring together researchers and conservationists from various horizons. The program will include plenary talks by invited speakers, thematic and general sessions on the study and conservation of the Caribbean fauna plus a special symposium on the Caribbean Biological Corridor Initiative.

This fourth edition is co-organized with the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) (Autonomous University of Santo Domingo), and will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Av George Washington 218, Santo Domingo (www.crowne-plaza.santodomingo-hotels.com/).

 

TENTATIVE PROGRAM

The Conference will take place from May 15h to 17th, 2019, with additional optional field trips on May 18th (at own expense, pre-registration required).

The social program will include a cocktail dinner party (included in the conference registration fee / pre-registration will be required).

Call for abstracts

We welcome researchers coming from different disciplines, including but not limited to conservation biology, evolutionary ecology, behavioral ecology, systematics, parasitology and population genetics, as well as conservation practitioners and managers of nature reserves.

Registration and abstract submission for talks are now open. You can download the guidelines here.

Abstracts must be sent before March 15th 2019. Decisions will be communicated by April 10th 2019.

Registration

Early registration (before March 31th, 2019):
Standard: €260
Students: €140

Regular registration (after March 31th, 2019):
Standard: €300
Students: €180

The conference registration fees include:

  • A conference kit (including program & abstracts)
  • Access to all conference sessions
  • Coffee breaks and Lunches (Wednesday through Friday)
  • One admission to the banquet on Thursday evening
  • 1-year regular membership (Caribaea Initiative Member for 2019)

 

Waiver application

A limited number of conference fee waivers (50% discount on registration rate) will be available to selected scholars and students from Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Participants will need to meet all their own travel, visa (if any), accommodation and subsistence costs. Requests for waivers must be sent before March 15th 2019. Decisions will be communicated by April 10th 2019; in case of negative response, the early-registration fee applies. Application form can be downloaded from the link below.
