Developing research and higher education on animal biodiversity and wildlife conservation in the Caribbean

2nd Caribaea Initiative Research & Conservation Workshop

Tue 31 Jan, 2017

Caribaea Initiative organizes a Caribbean Animal Research and Conservation workshop held annually in spring. The workshop rotates between locations in the Caribbean region. The workshop is a forum for discussing progress in studying and managing animal species in the Caribbean region. It offers expert presentations about basic and applied research on Caribbean fauna. The 2017 Workshop will take place at the Marriott Resort St Kitts, Frigate bay, Saint Kitts & Nevis.

The 2nd Caribaea Initiative Research and Conservation Workshop is co-organised with the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) and the RTPI CNRS “Caraibes”. The detailed scientific programme of the talks will be established by the organizing committee 2017, when all abstracts submitted by the participants will have been evaluated.

We are however already delighted to announce exciting invited talks by prestigious scientists:
Prof. Redouan Bshary, University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland
“Coral reef fish behavior and cognition in a changing world”
Dr. Carlos A. Mancina, University of Havana, Cuba
Title to be communicated
Dr Dawn AT Phillip, University of the West Indies, ST Augustine
“Fish tales: Of islands and continents, the story of Caribbean freshwater fishes”
Dr. Thierry Work, National Wildlife Health Center, Hawaii
“Trouble in the tropics – How veterinary medicine informs conservation of marine and terrestrial wildlife in tropical island ecosystems”

We welcome conservation scientists coming from different disciplines, including but not limited to evolutionary ecology, behavioral ecology, parasitology and population genetics, as well conservation practitioners and managers of nature reserves. Registration and abstract submission for talks and posters is now open. Speakers for parallel session talks will be selected from submitted abstracts. If you’re interested, please check the abstract guidelines and submit your abstract no later than March 31th 2017. After reviewing abstracts we will contact speakers that make the final agenda by April 15th 2017.
